It might sound a little certifiable to volunteer to ride for 12 hours straight, but there’s a very good reason: Every lap we ride and every dollar we raise goes to the great work being done by the Children’s Cancer Insitute of Australia.
Now back for its sixth event, Endure For a Cure keeps the wheels turning for medical research that is having a major impact on survival, quality of life, and better treatments for kids who get a cancer diagnosis.
In Australia, every year, more than 950 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer. Every week, nearly 3 children and adolescents will die from cancer.
Quay Consulting has been a committed supporter since 2014 when Rod Adams first cajoled our team into slipping on the lycra and hitting the track for 12 hours straight to ride as many laps as possible.
Riding for a Cure
“Quay Consulting has been supporting this event since it started and we keep doing it because there are kids still getting cancer diagnoses,” says co-founder Rod Adams.
“We want to do our bit to help end kids cancers – it’s that simple,” he said. “We’ve also seen the incredible impact that the Children’s Cancer Institute is having with survival outcomes and reducing the impact of treatment on these kids. For us, it’s a no-brainer to get behind this amazing group of committed people.”

Managing the Lifelong Consequences of Treatment
While survival rates are improving and CCIA’s scientists are delivering major breakthroughs, the reality is that 30% of childhood cancer survivors will have a permanent life-long condition as a result.
Most kids will go on to experience challenges such as infertility, a heart condition, cognitive disorder or secondary cancer as a result of their gruelling invasive childhood cancer treatment.
“The work that CCIA does isn’t just about the immediate treatment; CCIA looks at how to ensure the best quality of life because the consequences of treatment only really become clear over time.,” said Michael Bolton, Managing Director at Quay Consulting.”
‘It’s humbling to see the impact they have.”
