Quay Consulting would like to extend a very big thank you to everyone who came on board in support of our participation at the inaugural Endure for a Cure charity ride on Friday April 4th.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to raise just shy of $7000 to help the Children’s Cancer Institute continue their research into personalised medical programs for sick kids.

We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the clients who joined Team Quay for the day. Quay’s Rod Adams, Michael Bolton and Brad Kane were joined by Craig Gibbins (Fuji Xerox), Peter Sewell (News Ltd), Peter Denis (IAG) and Nick Dieltiens (Nova Reperta) who made it possible to achieve an impressive 1160km over the 12 hour ride and finish in 8th spot overall by day’s end.

A challenging day for a great cause

It promised to be a challenging day with the threat and eventual arrival of heavy rain and a slick track. However the enormous goodwill, humour and competitive spirit amongst the 16 teams riding laps around the 3.83km course at Eastern Creek was phenomenal. Recreational riders rode alongside more serious cyclists who demonstrated some impressive drafting technique.

While the strain started to show as the event reached the 7 hour mark, the arrival of 6 year old leukemia survivor Tilly Buttini reminded all of us of just why we were there as she joined cyclists for a while on the track with her big sister Ruby and dad Marco.

A big thanks to our team mates

By day’s end, we were pretty pleased with our results, which came from having some real stars on the team. While Brad’s stats possibly benefited from Quay’s liberal ‘token swapping’ policy – especially given how refreshed he appeared at the end of the day cheering on Nick and Peter D – there can be no doubt of Peter Sewell’s impressive contribution of 320km over 82 laps. Peter’s efforts also saw him come in at 6th place overall.

The cyclists were supported across the day by volunteers ensuring that the cyclists were kept in great spirits with a supply of cheers, bananas, lollies and coffee, alongside much needed support from massage therapists and bike mechanics.

Taking advantage of a massage between sessions on the track, Rod quipped: “I always feared lactic acid build up, but with my new personal massage therapist – whom I’ve engaged to accompany me full time in training for next year – I will never fear this again!”

That may come in handy as the team intends to gear up again for next year’s event.  We hope you’re able to join us or support us in some capacity at Endure for a Cure in 2015!
